BOLD is a brilliant picture of distinguished personal journey of Major General (Mrs) Anju Manchanda, VSM through ‘love, war, and peace’. This journey passes through both rough patches and paradise. A paradise she finds’ is not meant for living’. It also provides interesting vignettes of a life of woman pathfinder in olive green uniform. Throughout a creative persona and a caring mother, equally adept at running a home, hospitals, and challenging administrative tasks looms large. Among all this love for life runs a constant stream visible in a myriad ways from providing comfort and care to mortally wounded enemy in zone of conflict to restoration of a dying lake in distant South India.

Maj Gen (Mrs) Anju Manchanda her husband Maj Gen Narinder Manchanda were the first awesome general couple of the Indian Army. They both were doctors & military leaders in their own ways. They made an ideal couple , excellent hosts & were my valuable friends. I have also written a piece on Gen (Mrs) Manchanda like many of their friends in Anju’s autobiography ‘Bold’ published one year after her untimely demise. May God bless you Anju & be with you ever where ever you are & give courage to the family to bear the tragic loss & follow the ideals she loved for.

I have, and finished reading it today, page by page, line by line. Fascinating, very well narrated, and once i started reading it was almost continuous. I was particularly impressed that Anju kept diary, or perhaps she started jotting her memories once she retired. It was an excellent decision to bring out the book.
